This list contains my favourite software which I use. The majority of these programs are open source or freeware. I always try to use the freeware software. These days there is a lot of very useful freeware projects. Some of them are even better than some commercial programs.

Notepad++ - The best text and source code editor I have seen. Very useful and fast editor for all code writing including web design.

MiKTeX - A distribution of LaTeX system for MS Windows. LaTeX is the real typesetting system for creating beautiful documents including mathematics.

Open Office - An open source alternative very similar to MS Office. Useful spreadsheet editor. But not recommended for mathematical typesetting.

Zoner Photo Studio - My favourite editor for digital photos. This software is commercial, but not expansive.

The Ipe extensible drawing editor - Very powerful vector editor that works with LaTeX system. It enables to include LaTeX source code. This makes very easy to enter mathematical expressions into your image.

PhotoLine - Powerful low cost raster image editor. It has also some vector graphics features.

GIMP - Well known raster image editor. But it has no support for vector graphics (not possible to draw even an arrow).
